2008 SE Louisiana Road Meet Trip
Aug.-Sept. 2008
Day 3
Page 2

On US 11 north.

This is back on I-59. We've just passed the ramp to I-12 west and this is the southern terminus of I-59.

On the tour portion of the meet -- yes, those are boats secured to the new I-10 bridge.

These next several photos are of the new I-10 bridge being built across Lake Pontchartrain, parallel to the existing span which was damaged by Hurricane Katrina.

You can see the new bridge in the foreground and the old bridge, currently in use, in the background.

The waters of Lake Pontchartrain. They give no indication of the storm that is less than two days away, Hurricane Gustav.

Crossing Lake Pontchartrain on I-10 westbound. You can see the stream of traffic heading out of New Orleans to the left.

A drawbridge opening on the US 11 Lake Pontchartrain bridge and the parallel railroad bridge, as seen from I-10.

The side rail is missing, replaced by Jersey barriers.

A temporary section of bridge.

On the south side of the Lake Pontchartrain bridge, looking at the current I-10 spans and the new bridge behind them.

The US 11 crossing, looking north, That's Froggie (Adam Froehlig, the meeting host) at the bottom of the photo.

The new I-10 bridge is much higher than the old one.

The new US 90 Rigolets bridge.

The piers for the old US 90 bridge are still visible.

Signage at the eastern terminus of US 190, at US 90 east of Slidell.

Business US 190 does not connect to US 190 on both ends. The other end is at US 11 in downtown Slidell.

This is the new alignment of Business US 190 at the new interchange with I-10. This shot is looking east.

Looking west on the new bridge on Business US 190 crossing I-10.

Looking to the north at the eastbound lanes of I-10, with heavy traffic heading out of New Orleans. Note the very light traffic on the westbound lanes on the left.

Above the eastbound lanes of I-10, carrying traffic out of New Orleans.

This is looking south, at the eastbound I-10 traffic.

In downtown Slidell, the intersection of US 190 and US 11.

This is westboun on US 190.

On US 11 northbound at I-12.

On I-12 heading west toward Baton Rouge.

Note the heavy traffic leaving I-12 for northbound I-55. Gustav evacuation traffic had I-55 north practically at a standstill.

A sign of the times -- this firefighters' supply outlet had no generators for dealing with Gustav's aftermath.

Approaching the western end of I-12.
