2008 Richmond, Va. Road Meet Trip
July 2008
Day 6
Page 2

A look at some excavation work for the future continuation of the Coalfields Expressway.

The expressway's end is at Raleigh County 34, Slab Fork Road.

Didn't the previous sign say South County 34?

This is the first WV 121 sign you see as you come off Slab Fork Road onto the four-lane.

WV 97 is omitted from the exit signage on the northbound Coalfields Expressway as well as the previously seen southbound signage.

The unfinished incarnation of the Coalfields Expressway at this location was one of the stops on the tour involved with the road meet held at Beckley in June 2003.

The through lanes of the Coalfields Expressway see the merge of old WV 16 on the right at this location.

The old button copy signage in this area has been replaced.

Button copy signs on the ramp from WV 16 have been replaced as well.

Now heading north on the WV Turnpike.

This sign escaped replacement as well.

Heading down the mountain from Beckley, going north.

All these signs have been replaced since 2006.

The Mossy toll plaza.

The curse of the WV Turnpike is this section posted at 60 mph.
