2009 Milford PA Day 1

Clearview comes to Maryland.

There used to be a sign designating the entrance to the Chesapeake Bay watershed in this vicinity, but it's gone now.

More Clearview.

This sign used to read "To Alt WV 28" but now has the destination of Ridgeley, WV. Ridgeley lies straight across the Potomac from Cumberland.

US 220 departs the National Freeway and is part of the future I-99 corridor to Bedford, Pa., where it becomes I-99.

Unusual text in a "square curve" sign.

Heading north from Cumberland toward Pennsylvania.

I-99's southern terminus is at the ramp from US 220 to Business US 220 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

The short stretch of US 220 north of I-68 is built as two lanes on four-lane right of way. It will be easy to upgrade this to interstate standards.

Entering Pennsylvania on US 220.

First US 220 marker in the Keystone State.

US 220 is an easy drive to Bedford, running through a wide valley.

Approaching the beginning of the four-lane south of Bedford.

US 220 divides into four lanes just south of the US 30 exit.

I-99 is signed on the overheads here, but it officially does not begin until the ramp to the turnpike. There is no direct access to the turnpike; instead, ramps lead to Business 220 and the turnpike has an interchance with Business 220.

This exit marks the official beginning of I-99. The ramp leads to Business US 220, whereby access to the turnpike is gained.

The first official I-99 marker.

Those dark clouds in the background portend a heavy snowstorm.

The PA 453 exit at Tyrone is a bit complicated.

Another new county.

Back on I-99.
