June 12-13, 2009
Page 3

Across the river from Winfield.

Approaching unsigned WV 892, the Buffalo Bridge.

Signs covered up for the opening of new US 35.

Old US 35 between the Buffalo Bridge and St. Albans is numbered WV 817.

On WV 817 south just north of Winfield.

New Clearview signage.

On CR 32, Tuckers Branch Road, at new US 35.

A view of US 35 before it had opened to traffic.

Signage on this section of new US 35 is in Clearview.

Heading south on the unopened US 35.

This new sign has been added, since St. Albans was the old end of US 35.

This new "END US 35" sign is the first of two. There is another on beyond I-64 at the CR 33 Teays Valley Road intersection, where the new construction ends.

New Clearview signage on I-64 east.

On Montrose Drive at I-64.

Heading west on I-64.

These signs are mounted to the bridge carrying I-64 over US 60, the Kanawha River, and WV 25 on the other side. When the new bridge is done this will be for the westbound lanes only.

Jefferson Road and Kanawha Turnpike have a funky intersection and you have to be careful which lane you're in.

Heading south on US 119 toward Southridge and the site of the meet.

The attendees at the Charleston meet. Kneeling is Howard Goldman. Standing are, from left, Jason Ilyes, Brian Reynolds, Brian Powell, Janet Fraser, Chris Del Checcolo, Eric Near, Sam "S.P." Cook and me.

Several of the group looking at the Kanawha River bridge construction from the South Charleston side. These two photos were taken with the "still picture" feature of my video camera.

References to South US 35 have been removed from the ramp from westbound I-64 to the new route.

On WV 34 beyond the new US 35 exit.

Heading north on WV 601, from US 119 to US 60, these overheads are in button copy.

Workers have really closed the gaps on the new bridge since February.

Apparently these supports for the new bridge are for show only. The structure is self-supporting but supports were placed there for reassurance to the public that the bridge wouldn't fall.

New Clearview sign on I-64 heading west.

At the end of the ramp from I-64 west to WV 152 and WV 527, both of which are the old route of US 52.

Going south on WV 152.

The new and the old -- button copy and the larger first letter.

This is actually a combined route of WV 152 and WV 37.

WV 37 splits to head toward new US 52 and Fort Gay, and eventually Louisa, Ky.

On the connector from US 52 to KY 40 in Kermit. These signs are posted in West Virginia.

At the beginning of KY 40.

In Warfield.

In Inez.

KY 645 forms a four-lane bypass of Inez and continues toward US 23, ending about halfway between Paintsville and Louisa.

Heading west (north) on KY 645 at KY 3. A flyover ramp is under construction for northbound KY 3 traffic. KY 3 joins KY 645 for a brief combined route here.
