Day 1 (Kentucky-Tennessee-Arkansas-Texas)

These photos are from my trip to the Dallas-Fort Worth area in January 2010. These photos are from Day 1 of the trip and are from Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas and Texas. Thumbnails for the 502 photos span four pages. Use the arrow buttons in the upper left corner of the page to navigate the thumbnail pages. Photos from the New Years Day trip west to Texas begin with some new signage on KY 30 in Laurel County. KY 30 has been rerouted onto a new alignment and this is new signage, with a photo taken in the pre-dawn hours.

Moving ahead to the Somerset area on KY 80, where KY 461 intersects.

Approaching Somerset on KY 80 west.

Heading west on the Cumberland Parkway.

A new Clearview sign on the Cumberland Parkway. A few signs have been replaced with Clearview versions.

This is at the new exit for KY 61.

Black-on-white all-caps Clearview.

This sign refers to Barren County.

Couldn't really tell if this is a new exit or just a new overpass, but as seen in the photo two pics ago, it's stimulus-funded.

Note the old lighting fixtures beneath the overhead signs.

Heading south on I-65.

Clearview ground-mounted smaller signs like this one haven't become prevalent yet in Kentucky, the way they have in other states.

Tennessee's welcome center advance sign in Kentucky, in Clearview.

An HOV lane begins as you approach Nashville.

I-65 is five lanes southbound here.

Nashville's skyline can be seen in the distance.

I-65 used to continue along I-24's route, and the highway turning right used to be I-265. I-265 was eliminated in 2000 and I-65 was routed onto that highway.

Leaving I-65 for I-40 west for the looooonnnnnnggggg drive to Memphis.
