Oct. 10, 2008

These photos are from a trip through northeastern Kentucky, southeastern Ohio and West Virginia on Oct. 10, 2008. Included are photos of the new US 50 Corridor D bridge over the Ohio River near Parkersburg, WV, and the new section completing the corridor between Cincinnati and Clarksburg. Also included are photos of a new stretch of US 35 in West Virginia that was dedicated earlier in the day when these photos were taken. The 327 photos are spread out over three pages of thumbnails. Use the arrow buttons in the upper left corner of the page to navigate the thumbnail pages. To view the full-sized photos, click on one of the thumbnails on this page. You will then be presented with navigation controls to view the images on individual Web pages as a slide show.

This sign assembly in Flemingsburg provides yet another example of the larger first letter in the direction plate that's becoming more common in Kentucky.

Dual-red signal heads are being used in high-accident areas. This is on KY 11 north at KY 9 (AA Highway) near Maysville. The reflective tape around the signal gives added visibility.

Crossing the Simon Kenton Bridge from Maysville, Ky. to Aberdeen, Oh.

Heading north on OH 41.

Gas at West Union, Ohio was $3.129, the lowest seen in awhile. But it would get even lower...

On OH 41 north of West Union.

Nice view of what OH 41 is like in this area.

Another nice view of OH 41 on an early autumn day.

In Bainbridge, Ohio. First time to see gas under $3 per gallon in quite some time.

US 50 runs through a wide valley west of Chillicothe.

Very old OH 104 signage in Chillicothe.

There is no direct connection to four-lane US 23 from eastbound US 35, so the old route of US 23 has to suffice. (Hence the "Columbus" destination listed here.)

The bridge at left carries the westbound lanes of US 35 over the southbound lanes of US 23 as the two routes merge.

Rio Grande is the home of the famous Bob Evans sausage and restaurant chain.

The silver bridge in the background carries US 35 across the Ohio River into West Virginia. The green bridge carries WV 2 across the Kanawha River at its mouth.

County and township roads both intersect here.
