I-64 enters a hilly area of Shelby County. The knob in the background, where some radio towers are visible, is called Jeptha Knob and is believed to have been created by a meteor crash in the area.

Two of the last three text-based signs in Kentucky are on eastbound I-64 at Exit 43. This sign is still mounted on temporary posts due to its being moved for widening of I-64 in this area.
