Tennessee trip
March 26-29, 2010
Day 3
Page 2

Outside LBL, the state takes over maintenance and the route is numbered KY 453.

Crossing the Tennessee River, downstream of Kentucky Dam, on I-24.

On US 62 approaching the norther terminus of the Purchase Parkway.

After turning south on the Purchase Parkway, the I-24 cloverleaf is the first interchange.

Also continuing straight is westbound Business US 60.

Immediately after leaving US 62, US 60 crosses the Tennessee River near its mouth into the Ohio. This bridge, and the one a little further east on US 60 crossing the Cumberland River near its mouth, are of the same design as the KY 52 bridge over the Kentucky River in Irvine that I'm very familiar with.

The Cumberland River bridge on US 60, near that river's mouth at the Ohio.

This is the northern terminus of US 641.

The new bypass of Morganfield, KY 3393 continues westward to KY 56 en route to the Shawneetown bridge.

Some sort of conveyor belt passes over US 60.

The Henderson Bypass.

This is the intersection of Alt. US 41 with US 60 and KY 136. It is under construction to eliminate the "Y" at this junction. The US 41 signage is missing.

Heading west on US 60, back at the Henderson Bypass. Rain and darkness is beginning to interfere with photo quality.

Crossing Alternate US 41.

Overheads at the end of the Henderson Bypass.

Yes, it's a road. It used to be a "TOLL ROAD" but they only took the "TOLL" off when the road was paid off.

Eastbound on the Audubon Parkway toward Owensboro.

This was the location of the toll booth on the Audubon Parkway.

I-69 will follow the Pennryile Parkway from Henderson south to the Western Kentucky Parkway. The Audubon Parkway to Owensboro will become a spur of I-69. Although these signs say "Future I-69 spur" the route will probably be numbered I-x69.

On the US 60 Owensboro Bypass.

Kentucky has submitted a plan to remove US 60 from downtown Owensboro and remove the bypass designation from this route.

The same AASHTO application that will remove US 60 from downtown also seeks to truncate US 431 at this exit.

When and if Kentucky's AASHTO application is approved, US 60 will turn left here and the bypass designation will be removed.

This US 60 sign will vanish if Kentucky and Owensboro get their way.

This will no longer be the northern terminus of US 431 in the coming months.

On the bypass heading east.

Rain and darkness, what a combination for photography.

Northbound on the Pennyrile.
