2009 Milford PA Day 1

The snow was really coming down in the State College area.

US 322 and US 220, together with I-99.

This is the first mention of I-80 along I-99.

The PennDOT snowplows had the road clear of snow. Apparently the salt was working well because there were no slick spots on the roadway despite the pouring snow.

Shiloh Road at PA 150. The reason for this stop was the red and yellow awning at right. Yes, that's a Sheetz!!!!

Back on Shiloh Road approaching I-99.

Notice how the snow has disappeared.

Approaching the end of the four-lane and the end of I-99.

The four-lane tapers to two lanes approaching the I-80 interchange. You can see an "End I-99" sign at the right but somehow I missed that as I was driving and didn't get a photo of the sign itself.

State name sign for I-80 ... and we're already on US 220!

Heading east on I-80, having clinched I-99.

Pretty view along I-80 eastbound.

"No services" is right. This exit leads to a PennDOT maintenance facility. Mile Run Road continues as a gravel state forest road across the mountain to Lycoming County. I used this route to visit Lycoming County, and if I didn't have a 4WD truck, I probably wouldn't have made it. The road is not maintained in winter and it only had two or three tire tracks in the snow.

This is on Mile Run Road at the interstate.

Back on I-80.

Another view of the countryside along I-80. On this day, traffic was light.

Empty gantry. Wonder what used to be on this?

Now heading north on I-81. This exit leads over to PA 309.
